New Story Schools - State College Marches in Penn State Homecoming Parade

Last Friday, on October 13, 2023, the New Story Schools State College campus had the honor of participating in the annual Penn State Homecoming Parade. The atmosphere was electrifying as our team joined the local community in celebrating this event. Academic and Behavior Support staff members Stephanie Quick, Heather Wild, and Hailey Phillips lead the way as they walked down the parade route, tossing footballs and candy to get the crowd pumped for kickoff. Dressed in our classic blue and yellow and brimming with enthusiasm, our staff members made a lasting impression on the crowd.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly when our Clinical Director, Corey Hudson, donned a Star costume. This added a touch of magic to the parade and brought smiles to the faces of parade-goers young and old. Behind the wheel of our decorated van was none other than our State College campus’ very own Director of Special Education, Ernie Ley. As a leading figure in our institution, his presence at the parade served as a symbol of the commitment and leadership that New Story Schools brings to the community.

One of our staff members, Cheyanna Swartz, an Academic and Behavior Support staff member, serves as a coach for the State College Lions cheer squad. As a result, the youth cheerleader squad joined forces with the New Story Schools team and walked the parade route with us. They brought a dynamic blend of school and community spirit to the parade. The presence of the cheerleaders, with their vibrant energy and skill, added a touch of community pride to our parade participation.

“The Penn State Homecoming Parade has always held a special place in the hearts of the State College community, and it's events like these that remind us of the importance of coming together to celebrate shared values and community bonds,” said Ernie. “New Story Schools is proud to have been a part of this wonderful tradition, and we look forward to more opportunities to spread joy and inclusivity in our community!”
