New Story Schools Supports TEDE Foundation to Build an Inclusive Future

In a collaboration that exemplifies the power of community and compassion, New Story Schools’ DuBois school has proudly joined forces with the Thea Evzenie Day Encouragement (TEDE) Foundation to sponsor the creation of an adaptive park in the city of DuBois. As a team with care for those who struggle with physical and mental disabilities, we are happy to help those in our community in any way we can.

The TEDE Foundation is committed to spreading awareness and creating safe spaces for those affected by Rett syndrome, a rare neurodevelopmental disorder that affects brain development, mostly found in girls. Their latest project—an adaptive park in DuBois—is a shining example of what can be achieved when lived experience meets thoughtful design. It is the first park that is designed for people with Rett syndrome by using adaptive structures and communication boards. The park is not just a playground; it’s a symbol of inclusion, built with input from families and individuals who understand firsthand the challenges of navigating public spaces with medical or physical complexities.

Jason Daniluk, our Special Education Director at our school in DuBois, had this to say:

“New Story Schools is proud to sponsor the TEDE Foundation in its efforts to raise awareness about Rett Syndrome and promote inclusivity within our local community. Recently, New Story Schools and the TEDE Foundation have collaborated to install communication boards in our local parks. These communication boards create opportunities to break down barriers in communication, foster engagement, and create a truly welcoming space for everyone. New Story Schools looks forward to continuing our partnership with the TEDE Foundation in the future.”

Another way New Story Schools and the TEDE Foundation have partnered is with Momentum Refresh to our Community Days on June 13th and 14th. Momentum Refresh provides accessibility and inclusivity for people who need it, including individuals with disabilities, seniors, veterans, families with young children, and people with mobility limitations.

This adaptive park is more than a physical space—it’s a beacon of what can be achieved when community comes together with a shared purpose. New Story Schools is a proud sponsor of this park, and we look forward to seeing the smiling faces of children from all different backgrounds playing together.
