At New Story Schools, we are always so proud of our team members' ability to go above and beyond in their work. Our team members have a difficult job as it is, but I often see and hear of stories where they show their true love for the profession by going above and beyond. In this monthly series, I would like to take some time to recognize our team members who put in the extra effort and to brag about them a little bit. We truly appreciate all the work our team members do, and we especially appreciate when they do more, often without provocation.
I hope that you can join me in recognizing these instances of excellence. For my next two entries in the series, read below.
Brian Thomas, Behavior Supervisor
Brian Thomas began his career with New Story Schools Harrisburg as Academic Behavior Support Staff and was quickly promoted to Crisis Intervention Specialist. His experience in the areas of verbal de-escalation and crisis intervention made the transition into this new position seamless and served to develop the role within the school, ensuring service provision met the needs of all the students in attendance. Since moving to New Story Schools New Cumberland, Brian has continued to be an integral part of the Behavior Intervention Specialist team. Brian has reliably demonstrated his unique ability to aide students through difficult times by engagement in skillful verbal processing and de-escalation techniques. Additionally, Brian has displayed a strong and consistent work ethic and the ability to gain respect from staff and students, alike.
Brian furthered his knowledge and application of the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis by attending the BCBA program through Florida Institute of Technology. Immediately the integration of principles from the ongoing coursework became evident in the daily fulfillment of his duties. Most recently, Brian successfully completed the program and supervision requirements to become eligible to sit for his board exam. Without reluctance, Brian successfully sat for his exam earlier in April, earning him board certification as an Assistant Behavior Analyst.
It is with much excitement and congratulations that the team in New Cumberland welcomes Brian into his new position, Assistant Behavior Analyst. In this role, Brian will be able to continue to assist in the provision of high-quality academic and clinical services for our students through his supervision, creation and monitoring of intervention programs.
Brittany Maurer, Lead Special Education Teacher
I would like to give a shout out for our Lead Special Education Teacher, Brittany Maurer. She has worked at New Story Schools Selinsgrove since September 2015. Brittany is an experienced and valued staff member. She is knowledgeable, hardworking, conscientious, and dependable. Brittany goes above and beyond to help, support, and assist staff, students, and administrative staff. Brittany moved into the floating teacher role in January 2021. She has been a treasured asset to our school.
Samantha Mourar, Behavioral Consultant
New Story Schools Perkiomen is proud to spotlight and congratulate Samantha Mourar on her certification as a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). Sam became involved with New Story as an intern while obtaining her bachelor’s degree and accepted an Academic and Behavior Support Staff position upon graduation. Throughout the years, Sam has demonstrated a commitment and passion for working with our emotional support students. As a coworker, Sam brings positivity and humor to each day and it’s a pleasure to work alongside her. We are so proud of you and congratulate you on this monumental accomplishment!
