Understanding In-District Placement

Autism Support Classrooms

Grade levels: Grades K-12

Structured academic, communication, social, and life skills support for students with autism-related needs. Led by licensed special education teachers and clinicians. This classroom supports:

  • Verbal and nonverbal learners through academic, verbal behavior, and life skills models.
  • Programming emphasizes core academics, functional communication, daily living skills, sensory-informed supports.
  • Individualized strategies that help students build independence and access learning.

Therapeutic Support Classrooms

Grade levels: Grades K-12, with models customized by student need and grade band

Integrated academic and therapeutic support for students with emotional, behavioral, or mental health needs. Licensed clinicians work with school teams to:

  • Create structured, trauma-informed environments that support regulation, coping skills, engagement, and academic progress.
  • Help students stabilize, strengthen skills, and prepare for less restrictive settings when they’re ready.

Structured programming focused on stabilization, academic progress, and readiness to transition when appropriate. Behavior coaches work to:

  • Support students who need consistent expectations, behavior support, academic recovery, and re-engagement with school.
  • Support students returning from disciplinary placements or those who benefit from targeted emotional, behavioral, and transition planning.
